Over the last couple of centuries football has transpired as the one true global sport that all nations love and participate in. It is a game of skills, strength, spirit and exuberance. But sadly the rush of the game often oozes malice among the avid spectators who become violent. Still football is not to be blamed, because hooliganism is rooted not in the game but various social reasons beyond it.

Games and sports have always been a part of human history. People, from ancient times, have shed blood and sweat on the turf and used their wit and spite against each other for the pleasure of wining. Only, with time, the blood and spite has lessened. Now violence resides around the arena rather than in it. But, of course, the belligerence in and around the stadium is not an anomaly and is only consistent with the rest of the locale. As it is universally recognized, a mob, of football fans or others, is a disaster waiting to happen. Given the popularity of football, it attracts an enormous number of people with opposing views and, football crazy or not, such untamed gatherings often end in tragedy.

Also, hooligans could be taken as the sole responsibility of football only if they were otherwise civilized, law abidingly living peaceful and serene lives. But that is not the case. Take Carlton Leach, the infamous London hooligan from the 1980s, for example. As a young football fan he was abusive to the opponents, making the team sport look guilty of inspiring antagonism. But graduating into professional crime later in his life, he has proven that it was not football that occasionally irked his civility, rather he was always a violent criminal who rampaged everything he touched.

So to conclude that football causes violence is only ignorance. Human history proves that violence is an unfortunate congenital defect of our species. Therefore we must stop stigmatizing football or any other game for our embedded cruelty and start curing ourselves from it.
